MXMS – “Rx” (First Listen)

L.A. dark-pop duo MXMS — “me and my shadow” — are the latest signees to Grand Jury, the label that brought us Twin Peaks, Elliot Moss, and Avid Dancer. Singer Ariel Levitan and pianist Jeremy Dawson will release their power ballad “OMG” on 7″ soon, but as so often happens, B-side “Rx” might be the better song. (Side note: These two sure do love their abbreviations!) “Rx” is a slow-building noir catharsis that strikes me as the downer photonegative of Republica’s “Ready To Go” or the song that might happen if Taylor Swift ever discovers goth sorceress Chelsea Wolfe. It’s as catchy a melodrama as you’ll find, so listen below.

The “OMG” b/w “Rx” single hits iTunes 5/26 and is out on vinyl 7/24 via Grand Jury. Pre-order it here.
