Richmond, Virginia doom metallers Windhand are about to follow up their great 2013 album Soma with a new one called Grief’s Infernal Flower, and we’ve already posted their new songs “Two Urns” and “Crypt Key,” both of which slay. But the best of the new Windhand songs that we’ve heard is “Hyperion,” the one that Brooklyn Vegan posted today. “Hyperion” is an elephantine riff-trudge, just an impossibly heavy song, and frontwoman Dorthia Cotrell floats above all that guitar sludge like a beautiful apparition. Listen to it below.
Grief’s Infernal Flower is out 9/18 via Relapse.
