The Atom Age – “It’s A Mess” (First Listen)

Later this summer, Oakland garage-punk band the Atom Age will release their new album, Hot Shame — which follows a 2013 EP — and today, they share the first single, “It’s A Mess.” The new LP was co-produced by Blag Dahlia from the Dwarves, and the song is energetic and in-your-face, with an old-school punk sound. It’s packed with upbeat percussion and catchy vocals along with a background of transitional organ and a waling saxophone. It all builds up to a screaming chorus — “It’s a mess I tell you when you wake up from a high” — and a head-melting guitar solo. All told, it’s both wild and charmingly nasty. Listen.

Hot Shame is out 8/28 via Asian Man Records.
