River Tiber – “No Talk”

We’re still sifting through the rubble from the crash landing of Drake’s surprise mixtape/album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, and unearthing new gems embedded in the tape is part of the fun. The latest to emerge is “No Talk” by River Tiber, the Toronto-based musician who Drake samples on “No Tellin’.” Since that’s my favorite song on the album, I was thrilled to hear River Tiber’s full song instead of the murky, buried sample that Boi-1da reduced and boiled it down into. Fader spoke to River Tiber, aka Tommy Paxton-Beesley, about how working with producer Frank Dukes led to “No Talk” ending up in Drake’s hands:

I’ve been working with Frank Dukes for a minute. He made a dope sample with my vocal stem which Boi-1da put drums on top of, and I guess Drake liked the beat and recorded to it.

Sounds like he was just as surprised as the rest of us by the project. Listen to “No Talk” in full below along with a stream of “No Tellin’” for reference.

I wasn’t surprised to learn that River Tiber also helped work on Ghostface Killah and BADBADNOTGOOD’s collaborative album Sour Soul, because I can’t stop listening to that either. Paxton-Beesley is prepping two records for 2015, so keep an eye out for those.
