Her parents were of mixed Indian and Afro-Trinidadian ancestry. She lived in Saint James with her grandmother until the age of five, because her parents were looking for a place to live in Queens, New York. According to Nicki Minaj, her father drank a lot, took drugs and once tried to kill his mother by setting the house on fire. During her childhood, her mother enrolled her in singing classes at a Gospel club. She also attended classes at the Elizabeth Blackwell Middle School 210 where she learned to play the clarinet.

 

She also graduated from LaGuardia High School in Manhattan where she studied singing and performance. At La Guardia, a school specializing in music and visual and performing arts, Nicki participated in the theater program. She originally planned to sing at La Guardia, but unfortunately had a voice extinction on the day of the audition.

 

Nicki Minaj was discovered on MySpace by Fendi, who signed her on her label Dirty Money. After collaborating with World Wrestling Entertainment by interpreting Lady to Mess With for the federation (which will become the entry theme of the Victoria wrestler until her departure from the company), and after appearing on the DVD series The Carter Nicki was contacted by Lil Wayne. The two artists then collaborated on several mixtapes.

 

In April 2007, she released her first mixtape, Playtime Is Over, where she posed as a Barbie doll on the cover. Her single “Super Bass,” peaked at number-three on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified octuple-platinum in the U.S.

 

in April 2012, Minaj released her second studio album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded which debuted at number-one on the Billboard 200, with 253,000 units sold in the first week.

 

On December 12, 2014, Nicki dropped her third studio album The Pinkprint which debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 with 244,000 units sold in the first week. The album has since gone double platinum.

 

She was recently in a beef with another New York female rapper, Remy Ma, who dissed her on the infamous track “shETHER” and “Another One.” Nicki responded with “No Frauds” where she raps “I do not make diss records, only hit records,” and her resume proves it. She is currently tied with Aretha Franklin for most hit records on the Billboard Hot 100 by a female artist which makes Nicki is a very rich woman.
