LA Priest – “Lady’s In Trouble With The Law”

LA Priest is Sam Dust, formerly of Late Of The Pier, now a creator of ’70s-inflected pastiche pop that taps into everything from jazz and funk to contemporary electronic moodiness. “Lady’s In Trouble With The Law” probably draws the most on downtempo moodiness of the tracks we’ve heard so far — “Oino” and “Party Zute / Learning To Love” are both gleeful and carefree almost to the point of absurdity. It isn’t as experimental and glitchy as “Lorry Park” but sticks more to standard song structure. Dust is in crooner mode here, a lounge singer from another dimension dropped into our universe.
