One of the worst moments of 2014 was when the news broke that Chicago footwork overlord DJ Rashad had tragically died. Electronic producer Machinedrum aka Travis Stewart was working with Rashad on a number of collaborations prior to his death, and he’s finally announced plans to release them. Stewart said he couldn’t bring himself to open any of the sessions for months, but finally finished the collection on his own under the name Movin’ Forward:
Over the past few years I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with Rashad and even be remixed by him. The tracks were never completely finished and seemed impossible to finish after he passed. Eventually I mustered up enough courage to open the sessions and finish them. It is what Rashad would have wanted me to do. I called it Movin’ Forward because I know Rashad wants everyone he touched to keep pushing themselves and follow in his footsteps on the path he had been creating all these years. I’m proud to have known him, shared the stage with him and to have collaborated with him.
Along with the collaborations, Movin’ Forward will include two songs Machinedrum songs that were inspired by Rashad and Teklife. All the proceeds from the album will go to Rashad’s family — a fucking honorable move. Listen to “Understand” below.
Movin’ Foward is out 4/24.
