Beach Slang – “Young & Alive” (First Listen)

“Young & Alive” stands in contrast to the emotional axis expressed on “Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas,” the first track that Beach Slang shared from their upcoming full-length debut.. While the latter has a sunnier disposition and treats youth as an opportunity for growth, “Young & Alive” sounds like the last gasps of a dying beast. It’s weary, thrashing, and cathartic; the mantra-as-chorus here exists as a desperate statement of fact. “We are young and alive” — by repeating it and believing in it so deeply, James Snyder wills the feeling into existence. The track starts off with a high intensity and builds to something even bigger: the drums sound stadium-ready, the riff deep and intense. It’s affirming, as all of the Philadelphia band’s songs are, but in a darker and more direct way. It takes in all the anger, frustration, and confusion that comes with youth, and spits that back out with raging fire. Listen below.
